Art: Year 7 Students Wax Lyrical

Year 7 artists try their hand at the ancient art of batik.

Over the last two weeks, St Andrews International School Bangkok Year 7 artists have been creating batik designs, based on animals and habitats. The colourful outcomes require daring and imaginative practitioners, as batik uses hot wax to create its lines. Not put off by this hazardous technique, our students have embraced this ancient art form that originally hails from Indonesia. Here are some of our artists at work and a small collection of completed designs.

Artist of the Week

This week’s artist of the week is Preme in 10a. Across a double page of Preme’s sketchbook is this wonderful response to her visit to Suan Rot Fai, in Bangkok. The pages contain beautiful paintings of nature seen at the park, accompanied by notes and reflections.
