Key Stage 2: Environmentally friendly

Don’t forget that next Monday, 20th May is a holiday… We’re renewing our efforts to encourage and promote recycling…Our performances of Annie Jr. were a runaway success... There will be a special meeting for STARs parents.

Important reminder for next week

Don’t forget, next week we are closed on MOnday 20th May for the Visakha Bucha compensation day. Next Thursday, 23rd May, is the second of our catch Monday timetable days. This means that the children will need to bring everything they will need for a Monday timetable. ECAs will run on Thursday's schedule as normal.

Recycling at St Andrews - new initiative

This year, as a school, we have been thinking more about our impact on the environment and have been looking at ways to reduce our waste and ensure that it doesn't all end up in landfills. All of the food waste collected by our canteens is now sent to a local fish farm. We also introduced recycling bins across both campuses to help encourage everyone in our community to think more about how we can make an impact on our planet’s future by doing something as simple as sorting our rubbish. The statistics below highlight the issue that we have in our city.

We generate too much trash

1.2 Kg - Trash generated by Bangkokians every day

22% - Amount of trash Bangkok generates relative to the whole country.

8.1 Millon - Plastic bags Bangkokians use, per day

40% of the trash produced could be recycled

Currently only about 18% of the trash produced does get recycled

How can we help?

A group of parents and students have been at the fore in helping us improve our waste management as a community. Our next step in improving things is to introduce a monthly paper and cardboard recycling scheme.

Starting on Thursday 23rd May, we will be having our first ever PAPER TRASH THURSDAY. We will accepting paper and cardboard from our community to be recycled. Our recycling bins are located behind the T building and will be accessible throughout the school day. If you have large or heavy loads, a trolley will be available at the main school gate. The money raised through this recycling to support the education of the families of our maids, gardeners and technicians.

Annie - KS2 Production

Last week saw the STA community being entered with 3 performances of Annie Jr. The sellout shows were well received with Wednesday and Thursday being complete sellouts. The children wowed the audiences with their acting and dancing skills alongside some amazing singing. They definitely gave Broadway a run for its money. Well done to everyone who took part and to those behind the scenes who supported the children.

With the donations received through ticket reservations and through the donations collected by the orphans at at the end of each show, we have managed to raise a whopping 48,733.75 Baht which will be going to the Mercy Centre, who tirelessly work to support orphans in Klong Toey, as well as other community initiatives in this area.
