Art: A Window into the Visual Arts

Discover what the new Year 12 Visual Artists have been up to in their first week.

As we welcome a new cohort of Year 12 IB Visual Arts students, we begin the process of opening minds and thinking out of the box. In their first week of study we challenged our students to create three experimental drawings, using media and processes that they may never have considered. In one drawing we asked them to drawing with both hands simultaneously, whilst in another, the rule was that their pencil was not allowed to come off the paper until the end of the period. In these photographs you can see students working in small groups creating experimental ‘drawings’ on the studio windows, using a variety of tapes. Although a challenging task, they found it rewarding to understand that art may take many forms of equal value.

We would also like to congratulate our students’ from the St Andrews International School Bangkok Class of 2021, who have just received their GCSE Art and Photography grades. The results which are graded 9 to 1, reflect the hard work and creative approach that was commented on by the visiting examiner.

Artist of the Week

We start this year by celebrating the work of ‘artist of the week’ Prae from year 11G. Prae’s portrait of an old woman is sensitive yet humorous. She created this fantastic painting on canvas. An excellent piece of holiday homework.
