High School: Aladdin Performances

It was great to see two (physically distanced) packed houses for last week’s performances of Aladdin. 

Congratulations to all the cast and crew on the fantastic performances, under such difficult circumstances, with only a few weeks of rehearsals and some members of the cast joining very late. The students' speeches after Thursday's final performance clearly showed how much they have all gained from this experience.

Another highlight last week was the visit of a number of our highest-scoring students from last year’s Year 13, shown above recreating the photo we took when they celebrated their IGCSE results two years ago.

As I wrote in the Newsletter three weeks ago, 16 students from last year’s Year 13 achieved IBDP Points scores of 39 points (out of 45) or more, with the Year group as a whole achieving a Diploma Programme Pass Rate of 93% and an Average Diploma Points Score of 34 points - both fantastic figures for an inclusive IB Diploma Programme in an inclusive school.

Some of these 16 students have already left Thailand to study overseas, with Manon (Law at Durham University) flying to the UK earlier last week. Others, like Aashish (Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College London), Angel (Medicine at Queen Mary University of London/Barts and The London), Marwin (Medicine at St. George’s University of Grenada) and Zakk (Civil & Environmental Engineering at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology) are currently studying online, with the students sharing stories about what they have been sent by their universities as part of this.

For others, the start of their university study is, like their last six months, even more complicated, with some students sharing their new plans for the next year, having deferred the beginning of their university studies. We are looking forward to hearing their stories, and maybe even seeing more of them in school than we would in a more normal year.
