Back to Face to Face Teaching at Last and a Recycling Opportunity

This week saw the Primary students come back through the gates at St Andrews for face to face teaching for the first time since the end of Term 2. It was so wonderful to see their faces, albeit masked, as they excitedly met with their friends and started to get used to school life again. What we were so impressed with was the fact that, after so much time off school, how quickly the students got back into school life and were able to adapt and follow all the instructions from their teachers.

The different systems for the beginning and end of the school days worked very well. Please note the pick-up times to help ensure a smooth exit at the end of each day as follows:

• Foundation Stage 1 -12 pm (Classrooms)
• Foundation Stage 2 & Foundation Stage 3 - 2.15 pm (Classrooms)
• Year 1 - 2.10 pm (Blue Area)
• Year 2 - 2.10 pm (Sports Hall)
• Year 3 - 2.20 pm (Sports Hall)
• Year 4 - 2.30 pm (Blue Area)
• Year 5 & Year 6 - 2.30 pm

*We recommend that parents use the off-site parking (Suk 71 or Max Valu) to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow in the main car park.

KidsUp App - this is useful for Year 2 - Year 6 parents if your child does not have a phone or a phone watch for you to contact them directly on. If you previously installed the app on your device, we recommend that you delete this and reinstall it to avoid any potential issues. Information on this app can be found in this presentation, which was shared previously.

Shuttle Bus - If your Key Stage 2 children (Year 3 - Year 6) are going to use the shuttle bus by themselves in the afternoon, please contact the transport team at transport@standrews.ac.th 

Sustainability News

Today, leaders of the world are gathering in Glasgow for COP26 for discussions that will hopefully result in countries planning for a better future for our planet. While change needs to come from the leaders of the world, at St Andrews, we believe that change also needs to start with us. Our students need to become mindful of taking care of their planet and making sustainable decisions needs to become a part of their mindset. 

Mr Ewen and Ms Susan share the role of being “Environmental Sustainability Coordinators'' at the Primary Campus and believe that children should not only be very aware of the problems that are facing our planet but they should be taught and empowered so that they too can make a difference. 

To empower children and their families to make a positive change, St Andrews, in partnership with Trashlucky, is launching our first community recycling initiative. 

This week Trashlucky will be holding virtual assemblies with all of our Year Groups to teach each student in our school why it is important to recycle, not only here at school, but also at our homes. This will lead to how to use our newly installed recycling station in our carpark. To ensure parents understand how to recycle with Trashlucky you will also receive an email from Ms Susan with details of how parents can access the Trashlucky recycling programme, and how to register as a St Andrews' family.

Trashlucky believes that education, and motivating children to be responsible for their waste is an important way to enable change here in Thailand. They know that ease of recycling is an obstacle to changing our daily habits, which is another reason why they are connecting with schools to set up drop off points. To motivate people to recycle they have a monthly prize draw, and at the end of this month, it could see one lucky family win a car, Iphones and other wonderful prizes. St Andrews will also be able to see how many children at school are recycling using our recycling centre, and children can earn certificates and house points for their recycling efforts.

Medical Update

To enable our nursing team to provide medical care for your child, it is vital that we have up to date medical details and your consent for treatment and the administration of medicines.

As we now will be having students on campus, all parents must complete this information via the Health app in Moodle.
