This week we celebrate the Performing Arts at STA

The whole community was disappointed to hear that the school will have to remain online with the VSE programme and not open to our students for the end of term. Please look out for emails from your class teachers and Year Leaders to let you know the plans for the last couple of weeks of Term 3.

What has impressed me so much this year and, especially this term, is the resilience and perseverance the students are showing in the face of receiving such disappointing news. Although students must be upset not to meet their friends in person at school to say their goodbyes before the long holidays, they have carried on with their friendships online and shown maturity in their interactions with each other.

I have no doubt that the friendships and close bonds the students have continued to make with each other this term will continue and, in some ways, be more robust in the new school year as a new appreciation of what friendship means has emerged, whether those friendships are back at school or across the globe with those students who are leaving us at the end of the year.

STA Success at the Shakespeare Festival

As you may have seen featured in the newsletter earlier this term, STA took part in the Big Shakespeare Festival hosted by NAE’s Global Campus. Below is a write up and a list recognising some of their favourite contributions. Well done to you all!

“Some are born great, some achieve, and some have greatness thrust upon them.”

In April 2021, the Big Shakespeare Festival launched on Global Campus with many challenges across the performing and visual arts to inspire and engage NAE students. Students were invited to create or recreate dramatic, musical or dance performances or design costumes based on some of Shakespeare’s most memorable characters and scenes.

From Shakespearean monologues translated and performed in Spanish, to performances of Taylor Swift’s and Elton John songs, and creativity expressed through dance and drawing, NAE students have proved that Shakespeare is as relevant today as he has ever been.

Over 1,000 students entered the festival and a team of judges from all arts disciplines and every corner of the globe reviewed their performances and creations. I would like to say a huge thank you to them for all their hard work. The judging team have commended several students whose festival entries stood out.

There was fierce competition across many NAE schools including San Roberto, Oakridge, BIS Hanoi, British School Warsaw, Nord Anglia International School Dubai and the British School Kuala Lumpur to name a few. Well done to the above students representing St Andrews International School Bangkok for their commended work!
