Primary School: Foundation Stage in full flow and Year 5s look at Space! Foundation Stage children are back learning and listening carefully to the teachers, following instructions, and, most importantly, learning to play with each other again. Also, Year 5 have discovered their fascination for Space as they measured the size of the Sun, Earth, and Moon.

Foundation Stage in full flow and Year 5s look at Space!

 

It’s been so wonderful seeing how keen the Foundation Stage students have been to learn this week. Listening carefully to the teachers, following instructions and, most importantly learning to play with each other again in a shared space. There has also been a focus on outdoor activity when possible to keep the children moving and using their bodies in a physical way. Having the FS students in for those two extra days at the beginning of the term for the students to settle, really helped them settle quickly into the school environment and has also helped them quickly begin to learn new ideas and concepts.

FOBISIA Monologues Challenge

Congratulations to Shauna, Irene and Niva, who all received ‘Highly Commended’ certificates from FOBISIA this week for entering the Monologues competition run in Term 1. The girls had to enter a spoken-word piece of drama by video and did so well to gain certificates in a very high-quality competition. Year 5s look at the size and distance of the Sun, Earth and Moon

The Year 5s took to the outside today to compare the sizes of the Earth, Sun and Moon and also to compare their relative sizes. By keeping everything to scale, the students could see how big the sun is compared to the Earth and the moon and how far away it is. One fascinating observation was that there is a lot of space between these spheres. Hopefully, this exercise has helped the Year 5s appreciate how incredibly big space can be. It was also noted that it is a lot further to travel to Mars than the moon!! Will one of the Year 5 students be inspired to go there in the future?

ECAs starting again!

It has been fantastic to see so many students get involved in the ECA programme this afternoon. There were footballers, basketballers, gymnasts and dancers raring to start their activity at 2:45. We also had many teachers putting on ECAs for the students to get involved in also. It really has been a positive experience to see so many students involved in this programme. The rest of the week will also see many ECAs led by STA teachers and external providers.
