After graduating from the University of Newcastle where I studied BA (Hons) Business Management, I wanted to travel and explore wonderful new places. This took me initially to Central and South America where I was teaching English for almost two years. Falling in love with teaching brought me back to the UK to qualify as a high school Business teacher and after 5 years in a challenging school in London as Head of Business and ICT, the desire to return to exploring different cultures and countries gave me the fortunate opportunity to move to Bangkok and join St Andrews International School as a Business teacher. Teaching Business to international students provides me with a fascinating multinational perspective on current world events. Every news article gives us more to talk about and as an IB Examiner for Business Management since 2013, I am in the position to provide our students with extra insight to combine their interest in this subject with gaining the highest grades.
Becoming CAS coordinator in 2014 opened the door to my interest in service learning. The energy and compassion shown by students on our projects such as renovating a school for Thanksgiving Home, building a water supply to a village in the mountains of Chiang Mai, or organising a Christmas party for local children’s homes helps them to gain more than just an academic education from St Andrews and seeing the motivation our students have for working to help our community partners is inspirational. So much that when I took my maternity leave, I continued to support these communities as Charities and Yard Sale Coordinator at BAMBI (Babies and Mothers Bangkok International). Returning as a teacher to St Andrews, I have continued to connect all these worthwhile projects, such as the Giving Tree appeal, working with the Bangkok Refugee Centre and organising the STA staff charity clothes swap every year. I look forward to seeing the school and our community grow even further, as my family grows too! Bangkok is our home now and St Andrews is the beating heart.
We joined the school in 2012, when St Andrews on 71 was the small, friendly and exciting place to work and over the years we have been lucky to be involved with the transition to a much bigger, but still friendly and exciting school that drives me to develop as a teacher, as well as take advantage of all the other amazing opportunities. From jazz band to Muay Thai lessons, trips to the beach to early morning yoga, the school is more than a job, but a thriving community that supports and nurtures teaching excellence, where students are happy to be pushed and challenged to achieve fantastic results, as well as a place that my family can feel at home.
"Ms.Faye is a brilliant teacher and all her lessons are organised very well as well as she gets us to do interactive activities such as games to make us focus more. Also, she is a harsh marker which is bad at times but also good because it prepares us and makes us aware for our exams so overall, she is a really amazing teacher. "
"I would never have gotten that 7 without your help so thanks for everything in the last 4 years :) "
"I did it!! I got a level 7 in IB Business!!! Thank you so much for all your hard work and the massive effort in teaching me, a D-grade student throughout his igcse business course! I still remember you comforting me and motivating me after I got an E on my first IG test, and now looking back at it, I think it was such a big moment for me to acknowledge that the teacher I am/was being taught by wanted the best from me; and I hope I was able to return you the favor. Thank you so much for taking care of me since Y7, and I hope nothing but the best for your future endeavors. "
