This term the Year 3 children have been investigating shadows as part of their science unit on 'Light'. They have investigated what materials create the darkest shadows and how shadows can change size.

In English lessons the children have innovated a traditional Chinese Tale 'The Monkey and the Moon'.  We have some very imaginative stories based around reflections and shadows and some very foolish characters! The children have been working hard to turn their stories into a play, using all the features of a playscript including stage directions to describe both the speech and the movement.

On Thursday 12th May the three Year 3 classes went to Lao She Teahouse where they got to watch three Chinese shadow puppet performances as well as go behind the scenes and test out the lights, puppets and screen for themselves!

The children are now ready for their challenge next week - the practical side of turning their stories into a shadow puppet show.  I can't wait to see these performances!
