Our Capacity for Learning in Year 2!

This week Year 2 have been getting hands-on during our Maths topic on capacity. The children have been learning about litres and millilitres. We have discussed how many millilitres there are in a litre and estimated the volume of liquid that could fill certain containers.

Additionally, during one of our lessons, the children used their checking and changing skills while working collaboratively to measure amounts. The class teacher first gave the children an amount that they needed to pour into their measuring jugs, the children then worked in teams to accurately measure that amount of water. Some of the measuring jugs required flexible thinking as the children had to use their mathematical knowledge of sequences and counting in 10s and 20s to work out what the increments on their measuring jugs went up in.

The children did an excellent job of working together, they were all incredibly careful when pouring water and they showed off many skills that could also be applied to baking or cooking (perhaps for some lucky parents at home)!
