To begin our learning, the children looked at a selection of different poems in groups and discussed what aspects of the poems they liked and disliked. When writing up their opinions on the different poems, the children challenged themselves to give reasons for their answers by using the conjunction “because”.
After enjoying reading different styles of poems, the children were introduced to performance poetry. Through watching videos of good examples of performers, the children discussed what makes a good performance poem. Working collaboratively, the children selected one of the dragon poems to practice as a group; adding actions and expression to make the poem exciting to listen to.
