In collaboration with MIT, in STEAM week last week, Year 4 proved themselves to be quite the weather forecasters! They looked at daily hurricane paths and predicted where they thought the hurricane would go next. They used Scratch coding to show the different paths that the hurricane could take, and some even programmed a building to fall down if the hurricane ‘hit’ it.
We also used a variety of materials to create wind vanes. However, when we went to test them, they were eerily still – not a breeze in sight that day! We were surprised- a clear, still day? That’s very much unlike the recent Beijing weather we know!
Then, working in pairs, Year 4 created weather forecast scripts, complete with information about how to stay safe during a hurricane. We went to the Drama Studio and used the green screen to create the weather forecasts, using the green screen apps to super impose ourselves into a news studio.
