Our Early Years Earth Guardians team is led by Miss Echo, who explained the role to the children, awarded them their special badges, read them a story about caring for our environment and helped them to choose seeds to take back to their classes.
It was very clear from this first meeting that our young children are already aware of how important it is to look after their environment. When Miss Echo asked the children what they should do if they see rubbish on the floor, Areya (Reception Dolphins) answered ‘’We need to pick it up and put it into the recycle bin, maybe we can use it again?’
When Miss Echo showed the children a notebook that she was using made from recycled paper,
Veronica (Reception Sealions) said ‘’We could use both sides of the paper when we draw’’
Julia (Nursery Angelfish) said ‘’We need to protect the trees because animals live in the trees’’ and Neve (Nursery Clownfish) said “I turn off the water when I brush my teeth’’
Our Early Years Earth Guardians will meet once a fortnight and their next task will be to plant the seedlings in our new Early Years garden. I’m really looking forward to tasting the strawberries in a few weeks time!
