In the Year 9 Hungarian Literature lessons students have been learning about the poetry of Endre Ady, the famous early 20th century Hungarian poet. As part of our topic, on 8th November we visited Ady Endre Emlékmúzeum.

This museum is set in the apartment where he used to live and write a lot of his literary work. In the morning, we enjoyed a nice breakfast or cake in Centrál café in order to get to know the place where a lot of 20th century poets and writers worked on their literary pieces. During our visit to the museum, the students showed such interest that our guide offered to give us a follow-up activity in school this week.

Some facts our Year 9 students learned:

„Ady’s wife, Csinszka, decorated the apartment on her own.” (Bálint Perlaki)

„Csinszka’s father, Miklós Boncza, built a mansion for his wife that they never used after her death. When Boncza died, Csinszka inherited the mansion, but she never moved in with Ady.” (Dániel Anschau)

„Ady and Csinszka treated their staff very well, especially the gardener (Uncle Fetter) and the maid.” (Milán Czimer)

„They had a close relationship with the maid who lived in the apartment with them; she often appeared in their photos too.” (Anna Majoros)

„Csinszka first wrote to Ady when she was 16.” (Eszter Srankó)

„Csinszka was already engaged to another man when Ady proposed, so she had to break up with the other man first.” (Vince Kertész)
