Year 7 Trip to Visegrád

On Wednesday, Year 7 visited Visegrád in a joint Hungarian and Humanities trip. They learnt about Hungarian medieval and renaissance history with the broader themes of how kings consolidated their power with symbolism and the building of castles. One of our Year 7 students, Anabelle Garamvolgyi, tells us about her experience.

"On Wednesday, we all went to Visegrád and it was one of the best trips so far! First, we visited the herb garden with a guide who explained the history behind them. We then continued our trip to the centre of the palace, where there was a large fountain with a statue of a boy battling a mythical creature called a Hydra. We then had a look at a bed chamber. Did you know, they believed that if you slept lying completely flat, something bad would happen?

Then we went to Solomon's tower for the Knights show, one of my favourite parts of the day. There was archery, crossbows and fighting with swords - Mr Allen even got elected to be King for the event. After lunch, we went up to the castle. There was a beautiful view of the Danube and the guide explained to us that the Castle was quite interesting because it made use of the natural hill in its design - you can still see the curtain walls on the hillside."

All in all, a great day was had by all.
