John Bourque

Staff Profile - John Bourque

Music Teacher, MYP and DP

I moved from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Phnom Penh in July to join the faculty of Northbridge.  I come from a background of public, private and university teaching with extensive experience as a professional musician.

  • Bachelor of Music in Performance and Master of Music in Teaching, Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, Oberlin, Ohio

I moved to Malaysia in 1998 to become a founding member of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra as a trumpeter. Through the MPO’s Education and Outreach department I was also active with youth orchestra coaching, private tutoring, giving clinics on trumpet playing and organizing community outreach performances. Prior to Malaysia I was a member of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra (US), Virginia Opera Association and served on the faculty of the College of William and Mary (Virginia) and Elizabeth City State University.  Most recently I attended workshops on the Juilliard Creative Classroom curriculum in New York.

I am here with my wife and two cats. Elin and I have enjoyed the abundant travel opportunities in Asia, exploring cultures and cuisines.
