My teaching career began after graduating with a BEd Honours from the University of Strathclyde, followed by ten years teaching elementary-aged children in schools across Central Scotland. One of the highlights, at that point of my career, was the time spent on a Fulbright Teaching Exchange, when I taught a 3rd Grade class in Newton, MA. It was there that my love for America was born! On return from America, I took a position as Principal Teacher with the responsibility of Upper Primary School for 4 years. However, my love for living and teaching in America returned, and this led me to apply for a position with the British Schools in 2004.
As one of the original staff members with the British International School of Charlotte, I have been involved in an incredible journey over the years, and I have loved watching the school grow and develop. During this time, I have taught years 3, 4 and 5, joining the Core Leadership Team following the completion of the British Schools Middle Leaders Programme in 2009.
I love the arts and thoroughly enjoy teaching all curricular areas, especially music, art and drama. Attending Juilliard for training in 2017 then launching the Juilliard Creative Curriculum here in Charlotte has been one of the highlights of my career!
My family is incredibly important to me and I love spending time with my daughter, Isla and my husband, Cedric. As a family, we enjoy good food, hospitality, movies and travel. I also enjoy painting, playing the flute and reading (when time allows!)
We have such a strong community here where we all strive to be the best we can be, whether student or teacher! Our smaller classes mean that we get to know each child as an individual and personalise their learning, working in close partnership with parents. Having been at the school for many years, I have seen many students come through the doors - It has been a privilege to teach every class and to get to know, not just the students, but their families, too.
