Emma Lundy

3rd Grade / Year 4 Teacher, Head of Primary

My teaching career started 20 years ago after graduating with a BEd Honours from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow and for ten years I had been teaching elementary age children in schools across central Scotland. One of the highlights at that point of my career was the time spent on a Fulbright Teaching Exchange when I taught a 3rd Grade class in Boston, MA. On return from America, I took a position as Principal Teacher with the responsibility of Upper School for 4 years.  However, my love for living and teaching in America returned, and this lead me to apply for a position with the British Schools in 2004.

As one of the original members of staff with the British International School of Charlotte, I have been involved in an incredible journey over the last 10 years.  During this time, I have taught years 3, 4 and 5. Until the birth of my daughter, I had been a member of the Core Leadership Team following completion of the British Schools Middle Leaders Programme.  I love the arts and thoroughly enjoy teaching all curricular areas – music, PE, art and drama and my involvement has extended beyond the classroom, through drama clubs, school productions, choirs, art classes, residentials etc.

My family is incredibly important to me and I love spending time with my daughter, Isla and my husband, Cedric.  As a family, we enjoy good food, bike rides, movies and travel. We are also very involved with our church where I support my husband and volunteer with Junior High kids.  I also enjoy painting, playing the flute, reading and quality time with friends.

We have such a strong community here where we all strive to be the best we can be, whether student or teacher! Our smaller classes mean that we get to know each child well as an individual and can really personalise their learning and work closely in partnership with parents. Having been at the school for 10 years I have seen many students come through the doors.  I have enjoyed teaching all of them and getting to know, not just the students, but the families too.
