In Art this week, Year 5 have been using water colors. They have been learning about J. M. W. Turner and replicating some of his greatest landscapes. The focus of these lessons was on color matching and using the new water color techniques we have been learning.
Music
Reception are learning all about clothes through their International Primary Curriculum topic and, in Music, have been making their very own rhythmic patterns using socks! Each measure contains 4 beats and has been separated by a bar line. Check out our washing line!
Year 3 and Year 4 have been looking further at singing in parts and harmony this week. We have had some AMAZING choir sounds starting to develop! Well done children!"
Year 6 are currently discovering a new piece of music, "In the Hall of the Mountain King" by Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. Pupils have been exploring their feelings in relation to the dramatic piece and discussing the different musical techniques involved including pizzicato strings and chromaticism. To further deepen their appreciation and understanding of the piece, Year 6 are successfully learning how to play this tricky piece in their band lesson.
Science
This week in Science has been full of great learning! Year 3 have been studying the properties of different rocks, looking at the permeability of rocks and planning a fair test to investigate this. They ensured the testing was fair and made very concise predictions which they then either corroborated or refuted with their observations! Such fantastic science for such a fantastic unit on rocks; Year 3 all now know that rocks rock!
Language
Year 1 have been using their knowledge of hobbies to make sentences in French! Using the cards, they use one opinion (I like, I love etc), a hobby and then give a reason why they like or dislike it. We've been working on our fluency when saying the sentences. Mlle Jones has been most impressed!
PE
Future Olympians? In PE, Year 1 have been learning how to improve their throwing technique by throwing the foam javelins.
Dance
In Year 5 we have been learning about the elements of dance. This week’s focus was on the element of energy. We used word cards to sequence and create our own dances that demonstrated different energetic qualities of movement.
Technology
Year 5 are getting to grips with our Computer Aided Design unit of work using Sketch-Up, with budding architects thoroughly enjoying experimenting with 3D virtual environments. Over the last few weeks we have moved on from basic shapes to full houses and interior rooms in preparation for next half term designing our own ‘Green Home’.
Library
The Terrific Tigers from Year 2 enjoyed their library visit this week, picking out great books that are sure to keep them entertained until their new book choosing day!
