At BISC South Loop, the children are eager to learn and have a genuine interest in improving their learning every day. The staff are enthusiastic, experienced and creative, and strive to get the best from their children and colleagues in a positive and fun way. It is also different as we, as a team, can be creative whilst planning and delivering our curriculum, which is child-friendly, interactive, memorable and purposeful.
I initially trained in criminology and social policy with education at Cardiff University. After gaining valuable experience as a care worker for children with special needs, I completed my postgraduate certificate in education at St. Luke’s College, Exeter University. I worked as an Early Years teacher in Bristol and Devon before changing to an international school position at British Interational School of Chicago.
I have been teaching at BISC since 2009, and every year has been as good as the last. I chose to come to this school as I heard about the great opportunities that the school can provide as well as wanting to work with young and enthusiastic staff; I also like the international aspect that comes with the school. I have led teams in Nursery and Reception classes, which was incredibly rewarding; I enjoyed working with a team to innovate change and improvements. More recently I have enjoyed the transition to teaching in Key Stage 2, which has given me further opportunity to enhance my teaching skills and experiences. I have learned many great skills from my supportive and talented colleagues.
In my free time I enjoy cycling, taking photographs, fishing on Lake Michigan and exploring the amazing city of Chicago. Whenever possible I like to explore the fantastic cities and countryside of the United States through road trips and camping vacations. I love to snowboard and am now turning my hand to skiing. During the week I like to exercise and cook in the evening as well as becoming involved in charity based events.
What Students Say
“Mr. Nowak is awesome and fun. He always puts a smile on everyone’s faces. We sometimes play really fun games, and he gives out fun prizes to everyone, but only if you try really hard with learning. He has been an amazing teacher for me this year, and my first boy teacher!!!”
“Mr. Nowak is a hilarious, always happy teacher! He always makes me laugh! He is a very caring teacher because he talks to us about problems and gives out football cards. He has also helped me with my math work when I struggle doing it. I can’t believe how fun it has been being in his class!"
