JKA and JKB enquiring together
What a wonderful time we have in JK classes this year! Both JK classes collaborate and inquire together, we have been actively building caring relationships as we inquire and discover knowledge together. For our unit on “Community”, we enjoyed having Mr Mindorff come and visit us and tell us about what he does at school as the Head Master. We had so many questions for him and were so excited to find out he wrote a textbook on Biology. We really love animals in JK.
Each week we combine our classes on Thursdays for an activity we call “SPIN”. Each teacher supports an inquiry experience for the students to discover and research with all of our JK friends. In our current IEYC unit, we have been researching "Going Places", exploring transportation and journeys. For this week’s “SPIN”, with Ms Amy, we made helicopters and watched them spin as they dropped to the ground.
With Ms Lauren, we watched a yacht race to inspire the designs of our own boats. We made them from recycled materials. Then we raced our boats in a water tray in the classroom. We enjoyed blowing our breath into the sails to make them go faster.
With Ms Jill, we used different shapes to make transportation vehicles and sorted them into their main functions or transport on Land, sky, water and space.
With Mr Felipe, we explored transportation and programming through the use of “Bee-Bots”. It was funny when our programming led the Bee-bot to crash. Then we had to change it to make it work!
JKA and JKB students enjoy thinking, collaborating and learning together based on the IEYC units and the interests and passions of students.
