PreK A News

Welcome to PKA!

Our PKA students warmly welcome you to take a look at what they have been learning and doing at Leman!  In just a few short weeks the PKA students have become familiar with classroom routines and have come to love their days at school.  Our first Unit of Inquiry—This Is Me—focuses on exploring ourselves and our families.  We have learned through play, song, dance, art, and circle discussions.  Take a look!

We identify the parts of our bodies by singing “Head and Shoulders”.  We start out slowly and then gradually get faster and faster! The students are very enthusiastic when singing this song.

We inquire into ‘what makes a face?’  We use mirrors to look at our own features and then choose from a variety of objects to make a face.

“How do you go to school?”  We learned that most of our friends take the school bus while some take a car!  We used shapes to make our mode of transportation.  Afterwards we counted how many wheels and windows were on each vehicle.  Singing “The Wheels on the Bus” helps us to become familiar with the functions of a school bus and it happens to be one of our favourite songs!

Every morning we share our opinion with the Daily Question.  We take our name card and put it under the “yes” or “no” column.  This activity helps us to learn about ourselves and our friends.  It also teaches us to be patient and to wait for others to finish their turn.  Afterwards we count up all the data we have collected and decide which column has more and which has less.

At 3 years old we love to learn through sensory experiences!  We use our hands to dig through rice while discovering different parts of the body along the way!
