I have been working as a guidance counselor at internationals schools for years in Costa Rica. I started working in education in January 2011, at Pan-American School. During this time, I gained teaching and counseling experience as well as working with students will learning disabilities. I have worked with Elementary School, Middle School, and High School. Also, I worked at a Public-school as a Special Ed teacher, my main role was teaching students with different diagnostics and learning disabilities. I have IB and MYP training as well as AP training.
I have experience as a learning support specialist in several international schools such as American International School and Blue Valley School here in Costa Rica and I am currently working at Country Day School. Working within this wide spectrum of experience has allowed me to develop strong interpersonal skills, creativity, teamwork and my pedagogical knowledge as a Special Ed. teacher and Psychologist, which have been both rewarding and challenging. I truly love counseling and teaching, I have a great deal of respect for my students, their families, and my fellow faculty members. I believe that my skills as a psychologist are constantly evolving. Teenagers and children nowadays are constantly changing because of their cultures, values, type of families, social media, technology, etc. This is the main reason we must evolve with them. This is why I am always trying to learn more about their interest and technology in education. My philosophy of education is learning from each other and working together for the wellbeing of our students, the school mission and vision in order to prepare young students to be independent, creative and analytical adults, who will be able to be empower and make good decisions I´m a certified Psychologist and I also have a Bachelor´s degree as a Special Educator. Then I went for my master's degree in Psychopedagogy. This is the combination of 2 main branches of study, Pedagogy, and Psychology. The idea is to be able to integrate strategies from each area to support my students. As a HS Counselor, I have a strong prior experience working with youth, leadership skills, organization, soft skills, and time management skills. I am also an avid international traveler and an outdoors enthusiast. I have a great passion for exploring new places, culture, and peoples, this has helped me overarching the goals that I have for my sessions with students. I use restorative practices as a way to handle conflict situations. I believe that enthusiasm needs to contagious and that helps me connect with them and for me as a guidance counselor is my main goal.
