English Language Arts Teacher

I started to work as a teacher while studying “Ciencias de la Educación” Primaria at U.C.R., during my practice in “Escuela Nueva Laboratorio Emma Gamboa”, the principal and a special committee went to a trip for a convention called “Advances in Education” which I attended representing an elementary teacher.  This was the beginning of my adventure in education. This school worked as a laboratory that used different schools as models. As a teacher in this program, I worked on new pedagogical models based on the Whole Language, Emotional, and Multiple Intelligences. I had to study a lot but I was able to apply this knowledge to my classes. I started working there and I felt happy and proud, it was a dream come true.  I worked there for five years, and in return, I had to share my knowledge with others at different schools.

I later moved to Escuela Maria Auxiliadora. This was a wonderful experience where I worked with nuns at a girls school.  Around this time I got married and gave birth to my son. I then had to decide between personal and professional life. I then moved from San José to Guápiles, due to my husband’s job. This for me was a very difficult decision. It was certainly difficult to say goodbye to one of the most important things in my life, teaching. Then life took me through another path, my husband died and I moved back to San José. My family and I needed time to be together, so I started studying to become a holistic therapist, yoga instructor and all these things help me feel better in moving across my grief.

As time went by I embrace my old dreams again at that time I was pursuing a master’s degree in Psychopedagogy. At that time I was told by a friend about a placement at CDS for a Spanish teacher,  and five years later I am still here doing what I have always loved the most, teaching.
