I hope you enjoyed our music assembly on Thursday, the culmination of a term’s work and ensuring that children get exposure to high quality music lessons and a unique curriculum. It was lovely to see how the children who take instrumental tuition have progressed and the different stages in learning to play an instrument, from beginner to Grade 2. Many thanks to our very talented teacher, Ann Lerche, for the preparation and effort that went into the assembly.
On Thursday, the children had their first experience of lining up before we played the Qatar National Anthem. We have been learning the words in music and in class and many children sang along. It is a lovely start to the morning and a chance to show our respect for the country we live in.
On Monday, we will be holding our Qatar National day Celebration in the hall at 12.30pm. Parents are welcome to join us for the programme to celebrate the founding of Qatar and its independence as a nation.
Year 4 A and C have made an excellent start this term, they have worked extremely hard and made a lot of progress.
In IPC, Year 4 have completed their second topic of the term ‘How Humans Work’ which showed the children all the amazing functions of our bodies, as well as looking at some animals too. They explored the digestive and circulatory systems; whilst also looking at the different parts of the eye, ear, heart, teeth and our skeletons. We had a visit from the school nurse who shared her experiences which the children found very valuable.
The children thoroughly enjoyed themes such as instructions where they made jam sandwiches and created steps to complete tasks. They have recently been experimenting with different styles of poetry as well as showing their creativity through fairy tale writing.
“I really enjoyed learning the bus stop division method, now I find it easy!” Bernardo 4C
“I loved making the pasta skeletons, it was so much fun! Al Bandary 4C
“I enjoyed playing the Word Mania game on Literacy Planet, making words and competing against other schools” Ayaan 4C
“I loved writing different poems, especially creating my dream and nightmare doors for The Door Poem by Miroslav Holub” Abdul Rahman 4C.
The children have truly earned their holiday, so we hope they enjoy the break and come back refreshed for more learning in Term 2.
There is definitely a chill in the air and winter has finally arrived. Our School Uniform is available at the suppliers, Uniform Mart, and the winter uniform is a school sweater and school fleece. Many children are already wearing sweaters and they look very smart. Please do not send your child to school in non-uniform items. Children should wear full school uniform, including black shoes (no trainers) from January. This includes school caps which are also readily available.
This week you will receive your child’s Term 1 school report, which will tell you about their projected level at the end of the year based on current assessment. Please review the effort and behaviour grades with your child and their next steps in learning. If you have any questions about the report, please contact your child’s class teacher.
Sadly, our Senior Security Guard, Evans, will be leaving Compass Rayyan at the end of term. He has been with us for 5 years and is a happy, smiling face in the morning, controlling traffic and making sure the campus is secure. He is moving on to a new posting which is an excellent opportunity for him. On behalf of the Rayyan Community, I would like to thank him for his contribution to the campus and for being so reliable and hard working. If you would like to contribute to a gift for him, please see the School Secretary. Staff are having a collection for him and you are welcome to contribute.
Finally, it is fair to say that this has been an exceptionally busy term at Rayyan Campus. In addition to all the improvements around campus, the latest being the parking bays outside the front and back of the school, we have had a QNSA inspection, welcomed new staff and children and held many events both on and off campus. I think we are all looking forward the winter break and spending time with family.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I hope that 2018 is a happy, healthy and prosperous one for all. Happy holidays and safe journey to those of you who are travelling. We look forward to welcoming you back on Tuesday, 2 January 2018.
Mrs Ann Djedid,
Head of Rayyan Campus
