Happy Qatar National Day 2017.
It was fantastic to see so many parents attend our Qatar National Day Assembly last week to watch the children perform a range of cultural and traditional items in celebration of this special day. The children prepared well and practised every day to produce a very interesting and entertaining programme. Every child in school was involved in singing and class based activities in recognition of Qatar’s proud heritage. Many photographs have been posted on our school Facebook page so please visit the site to have a lovely reminder of the day. The children made us very proud to be in Qatar.
Autumn Term got off to a flying start with our ECA Fair, Coffee Morning and Welcome Meetings taking place in Week 1. This was swiftly followed by Class in Action days and the ECA Programme starting in Week 2.
We welcomed new team members and many new families who have settled in extremely well and strengthened our community.
The children were involved in electing Student Councillors, Eco Warriors and House Captains and leading an assembly on Good Manners.
Earlier in the term we held a ‘Happy Handwriting Week’ then a visit from the author Nick Toczek. Jessica Meyer from The Julliard School led a parent workshop and taught classes at Rayyan. We had a series of Parent Seminars which were very well attended and we will to continue next term.
Friends of Compass School have been very active throughout the term; organising Movie Night and assisting with the Rainbow Picnic. The Family Day at the Al Sharq Hotel was exceptional and with over 200 parents and children in attendance, the best day yet. FCS have many more ideas and projects in mind for next term.
In November, the QNSA Visiting Team spent five days in school, reviewing our systems and processes and observing how children at our school learn. Many of you got a chance to meet them and share your feedback. We look forward to their feedback as we continue of on journey of continuous improvement.
The Rainbow Picnic and Book Fair were the highlight of the term and enjoyed by all. Our wonderful staff gave their time to run activities for the children and make it such a happy and enjoyable morning.
The children have participated in QPPSSA sports competitions and many have been on educational trips or visits. Those experiences help to broaden children’s learning and relate it to real life situations.
Throughout all this time, the children have arrived at school every day; enthusiastic, happy and ready to learn. That is what makes education and teaching such a rewarding profession and experience. We can see how much progress the children have made, as reflected in their End of Term Report, and given next steps and direction to continue to improve next term. This cannot be achieved without parent support and the strong sense of community we have at Rayyan, where every child matters.
To end the term, we held an assembly to celebrate achievement in school and recognise children who were successful in the recent ‘Hour of Code’ activities. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to some of our families and children as they move on to pastures new. We wish them every success in their new adventure and hope that they will take very fond memories of Compass International School Doha, Rayyan Campus with them.
Thank you for your communication, feedback and support throughout this term and I look forward to seeing you back in school in January.
Have a wonderful holiday.
Head of Rayyan Campus
