Dear Parents,

On Wednesday, 21 March, the children celebrated World Poetry Day in school with the day’s learning focusing on reciting and creating poetry. In Year 6, the children chose a poem which had a special meaning for them and recited it in front of the class. They researched information about the poets and their lives. It was encouraging to see that many of the children chose poetry about overcoming life’s hurdles and being resilient when faced with setbacks. Their presentation skills were excellent and it is a pleasure to see how much their self-confidence has grown.

The same morning, the Year 5 children from our Gharaffa and Madinat Khalifa campuses arrived at Rayyan to start their overnight desert adventure. The excitement built as 18 4X4 cars gathered behind the school, ready to take their excited yet nervous passengers on an unforgettable journey.

Year 5 had a truly memorable overnight desert experience. From dune bashing,  an epic sand castle challenge, swimming for sea creatures, to a night time desert disco and  telling stories by the campfire – it was a wonderful two days filled with excitement and fun!

Zaira – The desert trip was AMAZING, I loved sleeping with my friends. Swimming in the sea was awesome; we saw starfish and crabs!

Orion –Playing charades in the tent, at night was so much fun! I really enjoyed the desert trip a lot and my mum could tell I liked it because I had sand everywhere – and I still do!

Omar- I loved all the activities! We played dodgeball and football! The sand castle challenge was amazing because we worked as a team. The bonfire was relaxing and the stories were fun to listen to!

Marie – The journey to the desert was exciting, we had Arabic music and we were dune bashing!  I liked telling scary stories at the bonfire and eating marshmallows. The desert talent show was fun because we performed and dancing in the desert was LIT.

Mohammed J- The food was delicious and I loved the activities – I would recommend the trip and I would definitely go again!

On Thursday, we celebrated our PE Department’s achievements this term with a special assembly, led by our Head Boy and Head Girl, House Captains and some outstanding competitors. Ms Creegan presented certificates to the children who had made good progress in their attitude and participation during PE lessons and had made extra effort this term.

Thursday, 29 March is the last day of Spring Term and we will be holding a School Spirit Day. Children are asked to wear their House colours to school, have a crazy hair style and donate an item for the Qatar Animal Welfare Society. During the day we will celebrate the atmosphere, friendship and our ‘Be Ambitious’ philosophy on campus with events such as a Bake Sale and Talent Show. The children are anxiously waiting to find out who has won the House Point competition this term and the results will be revealed during a House Assembly in the morning.

Next term, we will be having a second hand book sale on campus for both adult and children’s books. Please donate any unwanted/used books to sell on Sunday, 29 April 2018. Parents will be invited to come along a buy a book. There will be a container in Reception to put donated book in.

It was a pleasure to see so many of our families enjoy their day at the Sharq Village and Spa on Saturday. The weather was lovely and it was a very relaxing and enjoyable part of the weekend. Thank you to Mrs Una Malcolm and the Friends of Compass School group for organising the event.

We now have a large amount of “Lost Property’ on campus. Please check to see if any of your child’s belongings are missing and claim them before Thursday.

School is closed for Spring Break from Monday, 1 April to Thursday, 5 April. We look forward to welcoming you back to school on Sunday, 8 April.

Please note that ECA’s start on the first day of Summer Term - Sunday, 8 April.

Have a lovely, restful holiday

Kind regards,

Ann Djedid
