We have been out visiting the primary schools with some of our Year 7 and 12 students and it had me reflecting on the achievements of both staff and students in the school, and the opportunities there ready to be grasped. We were able to celebrate Aisha, one of our graduating IB students having achieved grades that put her in the top 2% of students worldwide. Mr. Rayner, the Head of Science was also on hand to give a demonstration of experimental science learning we undertake in secondary. I often visit the science labs to observe the fantastic and engaging learning that takes place, it was wonderful to share this with Year 5 and 6 students. For two years in a row now, Compass MK has had the highest mark in Qatar for the Coordinated Science IGCSE. Dovetailing this expertise with our Massachusetts Institute of Technology STEAM offer ensures we are creating the engineers and doctors to lead the future. I will discuss how else we are aiding this next week.
Here at Compass, we do not solely concentrate and celebrate the academic achievements of students. We are busy building students with character. As well as practicing their music and drama for our Variety Evening and upcoming performance in December, students have been out beating local teams in netball, volleyball, and rugby. One of my favourite after school moments is on a Thursday when many of the students show their dedication by staying for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award learning. This week it was the turn of their intensive first aid class. With over 100 students in the school taking part in the award, it is driving the other skills and characteristics forward for 21st century learners. We will look to build on this with Expeditions Week in January.
I look forward to sharing all these stories and more at our secondary Open Evening on Wednesday.
