We are pleased to introduce Abdel Rahman, a Compass student whose journey with sports and basketball has been both impressive and inspiring.

Check out Abdel Rahman's interview to learn about his love for sports, his achievements, and how he balances sports and studies.

Where did your love for sport first begin?

I first became interested in basketball in my home town of Alexandria as my dad was a basketball player and a close family member is Medhat Warda who was named player of the century in Africa by the African Basketball Federation and a member of the FIBA hall of fame.

How have you managed to focus on both your studies and sport?

People think it’s hard to balance between school and sports although I find it exactly the contrary, for me sports helped me stay more active, focused and refreshed so if you organise your schedule properly you can do it but unfortunately you have to sacrifice some time on other activities.

How has the sport and PE departments in Compass helped you throughout your sporting journey?

I’ve always been supported by Compass in general and the PE staff specifically always encourage me to improve my skills and leadership as well as being honoured multiple times by the school for my achievements which was always motivational.

What are some of your achievements to date?

  • More then 150 medals and trophies in both swimming and basketball.
  • Several honors as an athlete in Compass.
  • Honoured as one of the best participants in the outlaw camp (J.J. Outlaw is the current assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers) during the televised closing ceremony.
  • Selected as one of 6 players from Qatar to participate in the online junior NBA camp (junior New York Knicks in 2020)

Any significant milestones you've achieved?
