A Message from the Principal
We've had a busy week of sports with the cross-country running tournament held at Jebel Ali Primary School and the house sports competitions. While the weather is good, being outside is often the best place for young people. It was great to see the runners in all our teams doing so well. I'm not sure they heard our cheers of support all the way round but Miss Duffy ran next to many of them for the last section of the course so I'm sure they heard her loud and clear!
Reception sports days are always a joy and thanks to all the mums and dads who came along (and those who raced too). Everyone had great fun.
We have had a great endorsement from the KHDA that Mr Cullinan will go into further detail in his letter next week. I will only add that it's fantastic news for the school and that we will not change our policies on admissions selectivity in the light of this, or any other news.
A number of parents have asked me this question over the past few weeks as the school has been very busy with new guests and new prospective families. That being the case I would like to take a minute to assure everyone;
No change in class sizes.
We are staying at 5 or 6 form entry.
We are not changing our entry criteria in any aspect.
These are worth repeating as, I think, they are important. We must, as a school, continue to meet our promises to parents. Academic challenge, good manners from all, a warm friendly environment, attitude and aptitude; our ethos and promise to you.
On the same note we have had a fantastic crop of teachers join us for next year. More details will appear on Facebook in the coming weeks. Many are from the UK, some are from schools Dubai and all have been thoroughly "grilled"!
Have a great weekend with your family.
Message from the Head of Primary
This week in the primary school we have been getting plenty of exercise as the children take part in Sports Day. Even our Reception children were not too fazed by all the excitement, joining the races with great enthusiasm. The EYFS students loved competing in their House colours for the first time, which should really help them to feel a part of the wider school. Personally, I particularly enjoyed watching the traditional mums and dads races, which are always somewhat competitive…perhaps we should put the parents into Houses for next year too!
As I write, the House Writing competition is nearly ready to begin; it’s important that we also provide opportunities to compete in areas other than sport at House level as it gives a wider selection of children the chance to shine. As always I wish you a pleasant weekend – the half term break is nearly upon us.
Message from the Head of Secondary
This week has been story-telling week and was launched by Lorcan Air, in Year 7, who read his own piece of literature to all of our students. The piece has been entered into the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature. The theme has also coincided with the English team launching their writing challenge; I look forward to hearing the results.
We have a truly amazing school and my challenge to the students in secondary is to all have their moment of fame over the next few years where we get to recognise their individual gifts and talents.
Have a lovely weekend,
Sports Report can be read here.
We have our primary and secondary Athletics Festivals taking place all next week. Please see your specific year group emails regarding the clothing students should wear.
