Since graduating, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to teach in a diverse range of settings, in a number of different countries such as the UK, Ireland, Serbia and, of course, right here in the UAE.
For my first three years in the UAE, I taught in one of our sister schools, the British International School Abu Dhabi in Key Stage 2. I loved my time there getting to know students, teachers and the wider community in a completely new setting. Whilst there, I enjoyed the role of Student Leadership Coordinator, in which I created school- wide opportunities for students to develop leadership skills. Supporting students to develop personally and socially and preparing them to have a positive impact on others both now and in the future is particularly important to me.
Previous to my time in Abu Dhabi, I spent two years teaching in Year 6 in a Junior School in South-East London. During this time, I led English across the school. Promoting a love of the written word; reading and securing progress in children’s writing across the school and creating a school anthology of students’ writing endeavors were some of the most inspiring aspects of that role.
I love to travel and since arriving in the UAE, my passport has seen a dramatic increase in its collection of stamps! I embrace every chance to experience new countries and cultures. Camping and hiking have become firm favourites of mine since moving to the UAE. I love heading off to the desert, mountains and wadis at the weekend to spend time in the great outdoors. I have recently learnt to dive so I am excited about the new underwater dimension this will bring to upcoming adventures! Painting has always been a hobby of mine and I find it a great way to relax and unwind.
Having taught across KS1 and KS2 for the past four years, I am now embarking on my fifth year of teaching in NAS Dubai joining the Early Years Foundation Stage team. Teaching in NAS Dubai is always fun, rewarding and inspiring and I know that life in Reception will have that extra spinkle of magic too! I count myself very lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful staff and students. I am excited to see what the next year will bring.
