My teaching career began in the UK and I moved to Dubai with my husband in 2006. In my 17 years of teaching, I have taught from FS1 through to Year 5 and enjoy the challenges and differences between all the age ranges. Throughout my career, I have challenged myself to take on different roles within school. I have been a subject leader, year leader and directed two annual KS2 productions, ‘Bugsy Malone’ and ‘The Pied Piper’, which I loved! I love to see and support children outside of the classroom whether this is through a sport they enjoy, on a residential or part of the arts as this is just as important for their development as their academic success. Having been in Dubai for many years, I have loved watching the city grow and develop along with the children I began teaching in FS1 as they have moved to secondary schools and some to university.
Developing the whole child is my focus as a teacher. I believe in building strong relationships with every individual child and their parents. Therefore, creating a safe environment that encourages them to become independent, think creatively and take risks with their learning to allow them to blossom into their full potential. Having a daughter of my own I have also become more interested in the importance of the outdoors and giving the children as many opportunities as possible to explore the world around them, having time to reflect and build their imagination.
I love to challenge children’s thinking and some of my favourite teaching moments have been listening to my students’ opinions when having philosophical debates at the end of our day as they try to make sense of the world around them.
In my spare time, I enjoy quality family time particularly spending time with my daughter, engaging in some messy and creative play and listening to her imaginative stories. I also enjoy relaxing at the beach, though this happens less frequently now, and discovering new places in Dubai.
