I have been very fortunate to have had such wonderful opportunities to teach in different parts of the world. I lived and taught in Charlotte, North Carolina for a year and enjoyed every minute. It was amazing to be out of my comfort zone - different country, culture and school curriculum, and I learnt so much about myself as a teacher. I decided that the world was too big and exciting to just go home to the UK.
Unsure about where to go after working in the USA, I kept hearing about a wonderful place called Dubai. It seemed to be the place to be - a cosmopolitan melting pot of people from all over the world living in the most vibrant, exciting city on the planet. I was not disappointed - I have loved every minute of my life in the UAE. So much so, I feel that it has truly become home. I met my husband here and became a mummy in 2017. I love that weekends can be spent at the beach, sailing, camping, travelling or even skiing! Dubai is full of possibilities.
The most wonderful thing about Dubai is that you meet people from all over the world. Lucky for me, I get to teach the wonderful children whose families have made Dubai their home. It’s so exciting to have a class of children from all over the world. I love to hear about their home countries and their cultures and traditions. It’s also amazing to watch children and families becoming friends, it’s a wonderful opportunity for little ones to be global citizens from such an early age.
I once read a quote, ‘find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life’ and, even after 11 years of teaching, I feel like I have. I love being a teacher and working with children - they really are the best co- workers. Every day is different and to be able to watch children grow as learners and individuals makes me feel very fortunate. I am really looking forward to meeting the children in RG. I’m sure we’ll have lots of fun together, work very hard and enjoy every minute of our learning.
