Steve Ormston

Secondary Mathematics

My name is Steve Ormston. I’ve been teaching Secondary Mathematics at NAS Dubai since the school opened in 2014.

I came to teaching in 2004, graduating from the University of Brighton. Prior to joining NAS Dubai I taught at a large comprehensive in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, where I held the position of Deputy Head of Mathematics with specific responsibility for Key Stage 3, though I have extensive experience teaching at all secondary levels, right up to Further Mathematics. I have also held the role of Deputy Head of Year as I consider pastoral care to be hugely important in the school life of all students.

I am highly enthusiastic about utilising modern technology in learning and I'm a great believer in making learning enjoyable for everyone. This is particularly important in Maths as, although it is where my passion lies in teaching, for some it isn't viewed quite so positively - so I like to help change that.

As a fan of sport, I follow football, cricket, golf and baseball. I also like to play sport, though the phrase 'blessed with sporting talent' doesn't really apply to me! I also enjoy reading, writing and attempting to play the guitar.

My wife teaches here too - now as a Secondary History teacher after moving up from Primary, so it will be good to see her more often! Also, my daughter is a student in the primary school here. She’s enjoying her learning, loves her teachers and is flourishing at NAS Dubai.
