primary teacher helping year 3 students in maths class

James Trentini

After a number of years living in Dubai and working in this innovative city, I look forward to starting my post as classroom teacher for 6B at Nord Anglia International School Dubai.

I anticipate an enjoyable and fulfilling experience getting to know the staff, children and wider community of the school.

Following my Physical Education and Youth Sport degree at Sheffield Hallam University in 2007, I completed a PGCE at Bishop Grosseteste University, Lincoln. Ever since leaving the post graduate degree, I have been teaching. My first teaching role was at North Leverton Primary School in Nottinghamshire. After these first few years in teaching and becoming a lead Mathematics teacher and PE specialist, I decided to do something I had planned to do for years; teach abroad.

In the summer of 2011, I arrived in Dubai. Like many people, I planned to work here for a couple of years before choosing an exciting new destination to teach in… I am now in my eighth year. I call Dubai, and the UAE, my second home, full of opportunity and diversity which makes living and teaching here so great.

During my time in Dubai, I have taught Year 6 children at two different schools, preparing primary school children, both academically and socially for the transition into secondary school. I enjoy teaching and learning in all subject areas, striving to make learning fun, challenging and relevant to the environment we live in. I have enjoyed being a Year Leader,  Head of Mathematics and STEAM Lead Teacher; working closely with colleagues to develop teaching and learning opportunities in schools. It has also been very rewarding to be involved in the sporting achievements of a school and supporting students with their extra-curricular endeavours.

Outside of school, I will continue to persevere with golf, a pastime I took up since moving to Dubai, although the number of lost golf balls can work out rather expensive! I also enjoy spending my weekends reading by the pool, catching up with friends and planning new travel destinations with my wife.
