I moved from the UK to Beijing, China, in 2002 where I worked as a teacher in two international schools for 8 years. During this time, I also had my 2 children, Scarlet and Thomas. My husband and I enjoyed our time in Beijing, however, when a job opportunity arose for my husband at The British School of Guangzhou, we felt it was time for a move. When we came to visit BSG, we immediately felt a connection to it and were extremely happy with our decision.

Upon completion of my BSc in Psychology at The University of Liverpool, I have spent the majority of my professional life in the vicinity of education. Firstly, I undertook an Au Pair post in Switzerland. Being responsible for 3 young children, helping them progress through play, song and dance allowed me to gain confidence and sparked my interest in working with young individuals

After I qualified with a Bachelors degree in Education, I began working in a local school in Cape Town for 2 years. Whilst Cape Town will always be the place I call home, I also loved the idea of travelling and exploring new, interesting and exotic locations and combining this with my passion for teaching; this led me to pursue a career in international education. Initially I moved to Kuwait, teaching at an international British school for 3 years. Whilst in the school I was able to take on a variety of rewarding roles and responsibilities, including become the Year Leader for Year 3 and leading school drama productions. These roles helped build my appreciation for both how children learn inside and out of the classroom as well as give me a greater insight into how to lead a successful team of teachers.

I graduated in 2010 and have subsequently taught across Key Stage 1 and 2, though primarily within the Early Year’s department. Early Years teaching is extremely rewarding, enabling the foundational life skills children require throughout their lives. Through play and formal teaching methods, I ensure that young children develop and flourish, guaranteeing they are confident and prepared to undertake the next steps in their educational journey.

Following University I gained my Cambridge CELTA qualification and made the leap into international education. I have since been teaching English in China for 5 years, predominately working with young learners. Extraordinary academic success, teamed with strong values and an inspiring vision, make The British School of Guangzhou both an exciting and privileged place to be. This year I am thrilled to be joining the Nursery team and greatly look forward to a new adventure with my class.

I am a recently qualified teacher, having graduated from Stranmillis University College Belfast with first class honours in 2017. Upon graduation I was eager to enter the world of work and begin the career I had dreamt about - teaching! My first teaching position was here in Guangzhou, in a foreign school affiliated with South China Normal University. I worked here for one academic year 2017-2018, as a grade 5 homeroom teacher and the foreign English teacher for grade 3 and kindergarten.
