My first experience in international teaching took place at the British School of Beijing, where I had the opportunity to work before attending university. After completing my MA at the University of Aberdeen, UK, I took on a role as a teaching assistant at the British College of Brazil. It was during my time in Brazil that I truly fell in love with teaching and started to develop a strong interest in the different teaching styles and how these have an impact on children’s learning behaviours.

I have always had a passion to work with young children. When I finished school I began working in a nursery and while working there I obtained my diploma in Early Childhood Education from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, I worked my way up from a student teacher to head supervisor for the under twos. After three years the travel bug set in and I wanted to explore Europe.

After completing my bachelor’s degree in Education at the University of Central Florida, I moved to Portland, Oregon to pursue teaching. I taught in Oregon for four years in Year 1 and Year 4, as well as Head of Year for Year 4. I enjoyed teaching in the public school system, but eventually wanted to teach overseas. This brought me to Guangzhou where I have taught Year 1 for the past four years and have recently moved to The British School of Guangzhou. I am looking forward to being a part of the Early Years Team as a Nursery Teacher.

Almost 20 years ago I completed a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Sociology, followed by a Bachelor of Social Work in Melbourne Australia. I worked as a social worker in community health setting and criminal justice system with disadvantaged youth providing counselling and individual support for eight years before our expat journey began. In 2009 we moved to Beijing where I completed my TESOL certificate and worked at a bilingual kindergarten as an English teacher, this followed by moving to Dubai, Osaka and back to Beijing where I was fortunate to work in different International school settings.
