Reception Teacher

I arrived in Guangzhou almost a decade ago, with a plan to teach English as an additional language for a year or two and experience living abroad. Little did I know that this would lead me to discover my passion for teaching and become my career.

I began my journey at a local kindergarten and have since had the opportunity to hone my skills in a variety of age groups, ranging up to secondary. I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Science from the University of South Africa and went on to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Nottingham. I am very happy to now be joining the BSG family which is such a well-established and respected school within our community.

Moving to China as a young adult was quite a daunting prospect, especially since I had never left my home country, South Africa, before. It hasn’t always been easy, but I am now so appreciative of all the things that I have gained by taking the risk, such as an appreciation of Asian cuisine and a husband who shares my love of adventure. Our escapades include diving the untouched coral gardens of Raja Ampat, hot-air-ballooning over the Namib sand dunes of Sossusvlei and trekking Tiger Leaping Gorge in Yunnan. In between these expeditions, I enjoy a calmer pace of life where I like to read, go for walks by the river and share meals with friends.
