FIRST® LEGO® League encourages students to pursue science, technology and robotics activities through friendly competitions that stress the core values of collaboration, shared experiences and discovery. By partnering with FIRST LEGO League, BISH is able to provide ongoing learning opportunities that motivate young people to embrace STEAM while developing their skills in communication, teamwork and analytical thought.

“I am delighted to announce our collaboration with FIRST LEGO League,” said Andrew Derry, Principal of the British International School of Houston. “This is an ideal strategic partnership given the importance we place on STEAM programming and robotic design. Combined with our outstanding performing arts curriculum developed in conjunction with The Juilliard School and our collaboration with MIT, this new alliance further supports our dedication to work alongside the world’s leading organizations to enhance learning and give students the skills to be future leaders of tomorrow.”

FIRST LEGO League is an international, academic competition organized for elementary and middle school students ages 9-14. Teams research a real-world problem and are tasked to present an innovative solution to the challenge issued. They must also design, build and program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® and compete on a table-top playing field. Students must demonstrate their creativity and understanding of technology all while displaying FIRST LEGO League Core Values.

FIRST is excited to partner with the British International School of Houston to serve FIRST LEGO League teams in the Greater Houston Area. The new campus in Katy, Texas, will provide the perfect FIRST LEGO League regional championship venue for teams to enjoy,” said Kim Wierman, director, FIRST LEGO League & FIRST® LEGO® League Jr. “We look forward to an exciting season with the ANIMAL ALLIESSM Challenge. It is truly a great time for students to be on a FIRST LEGO League team in Houston.”

About FIRST LEGO League

FIRST® LEGO® League is an international competition organized by FIRST® for elementary and middle school students (ages 9–14 in the United States and Canada, 9–16 elsewhere). Each year in August, FIRST® LEGO® League introduces a scientific and real-world challenge for teams to focus and research on. FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and participation in science, technology, engineering and math while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity designs a progression of mentor-guided robotic/STEM related programs for young people ages 6 to 18.
