The Reggio Emilia approach, based on subjectivity, respect, dialogue, connection, collaboration, autonomy, and search for knowledge, has deeply moved and inspired me as both a teacher, and a person. In Reggio Emilia, the notion of learning is seen as a process of knowledge construction, based on the co-construction of the group, and on the trial and error investigations of the students. There is great importance placed on the process rather than just the product or the outcome. A robust emphasis is placed on the pedagogy of listening in which the teacher is an active and respectful listener of the children as they make discoveries, form theories, and build relationships. Considering teachers to be partners in the process of learning, as well as fostering and placing value in reciprocal exchanges between children and adults throughout the course of constructing knowledge, as it is done within the Reggio Emilia approach, aligns with my teaching values and what I consider best practices.
Outside of the classroom I enjoy camping, reading, bouldering, neuroscience, and travel.
