World Languages Teacher

World Languages Teacher

My passion for languages, new cultures and travelling is something that started as a youngster when my parents swapped our family home with homes abroad, sometimes as often as three times a year.

Although I´m British I was fortunate to have been born in Sevilla, in my opinion one of the most beautiful cities in Spain, and spent all my school years there. My family still live there so I manage to go back and fore on a regular basis. My passion for languages, new cultures and travelling is something that started as a youngster when my parents swapped our family home with homes abroad, sometimes as often as three times a year. It was always exciting to arrive at a new destination, discover new things, make new friends and have the opportunity to immerse myself into the local culture.

I like to think I applied that same sense of adventure to my university studies by later leaving the comfort of Sevilla to go to university in England, France and Scotland. I knew I wanted to study languages so I spent most of my gap year in Paris and it was no real surprise that I took a BA (Hons) in Two Modern Languages, Spanish and French, with Translation Studies, at the University of Hull, Yorkshire.  I spent a year at the University of Lyon, as an integral part of my degree.

But it was not until I went to Dubai to give Spanish classes that I realised how rewarding teaching languages is. On my return from Dubai, and before starting my PGDE, secondary school Spanish and French, at the University of Glasgow, I also took a part-time post graduate diploma in Public Service Interpreting (English Law) at the London Metropolitan University.

Most recently, I enjoyed every minute of teaching Spanish and French at a Secondary school in Glasgow. Teaching in Scotland strengthened my belief in the importance of quality education and, at the same time, it has helped me obtain key skills and qualities which have enabled me to develop as a teacher and a person.

My out-of-school interests include nature, fashion, flamenco dancing, ballet and rugby which hopefully I will have the opportunity to apply to the wider aspect of school life. I also really enjoy warm climates and look forward to having the opportunity to explore the US and South America during my free time at Houston. I have always imagined my teaching career to be at International Schools and I´m delighted to be joining BISH as World Languages Teacher for the start of the new academic year. A new adventure begins!
