I am a French native speaker with a passion for languages. I studied English and American literature at university in Lyon, France. After graduating, I moved to Bristol, England, and did a teacher training course at Bristol University. I fell in love with England and lived there for the next 12 years. I taught Languages in schools in Bristol, Nottingham and Sherborne (Dorset). I took a year out in 2010 to teach French in the Alliance Française in Brisbane, Australia. There, I taught all ages, from four year olds to adults. It was a rewarding experience.
My husband and I moved to Houston in April 2014 so we are very new to life in the US. I have always loved teaching languages and I am very excited to be part of the British International School of Houston, where languages are so highly regarded. I think that bringing culture into the classroom is an integral part of language learning and an essential part of High Performance Learning. I feel privileged to teach in such a successful school.
I am interested in South American culture and history and I love travelling. I enjoyed visiting Mexico a few years ago and I am planning a trip to Argentina.
To be able to speak a foreign language opens your eyes to a new culture and enhances your life. I also like keeping fit and be outdoors. I come from a little town called Vienne which is located near Lyon. As it is close to the Alps, I started skiing at the age of 4 and have loved it ever since. It is my favourite sport but I don’t think I will be doing a lot of it in Texas!
What the students say about me...
“Miss Chevallier is one of the nicest teachers.”
“I have learnt an awful lot this year.”
“She makes learning the passé composé fun!”
This school is different to all others I have worked at because…
I feel very lucky to be working at the British International School of Houston. I like it because it is a multicultural school. Students not only respect each others culture but they learn from each other as well. Students see the importance of language learning and they thrive for the highest results. Additionally, I like the atmosphere in the school and it makes going to work a real pleasure. Students are kind, willing to learn and hard working.
