I graduated from Roehampton University in 2009 with an honours degree in French and Spanish Translation. My fourth year of study was spent abroad, half of which was studying at a university in Montpellier, France. I got a real taste of French life as I got to experience strikes first hand and my own university got barricaded shut for over a month! I also spent six months living in Cuzco, Peru where I volunteered at a school in exchange for Spanish lessons. After graduating I completed a PGCE in Secondary Modern Foreign Languages at the University of Sussex.
Before coming to BISH I worked at a comprehensive school in South London where I had been teaching for four years. During my time there I lead and developed the Spanish curriculum, mentored students and trainee teachers and introduced a number of initiatives such as the Francovision song contest, various MFL spelling bees and a Korean language and culture club. I was also involved in implementing project based learning across the whole school which has allowed students to engage more with their learning and produce high quality products. I have relished the opportunity to be able to guide students to direct and perform a play, publish their own book, hold an art exhibition for the public and much more.
My interests outside school include seeing live music and stand-up comedy (though I would never be able to do it myself!). I really enjoy discovering new music and sharing it with others. I am also an avid traveller and love visiting places that have rich history and interesting architecture. In my opinion, the best place that I have explored so far is Machu Picchu in Peru. I hope to be able to explore more of North, South and Central America while I am here in Houston.
