Elementary School

Welcome to The Village School! We have compiled a frequently asked questions list below to guide you to the appropriate faculty, staff or parent group.

Who’s Who in Elementary?

Access to our School Information Systems

As a Village School parent/guardian, you have access to multiple systems that allow you to keep your child's information up to date, and also allow you to access their report cards, lunch balances, health information, and find out about upcoming activities and events. These tools will practically put you in the classroom with your child. School events, teacher messages, daily grades and more information are available at a click of a mouse!

  •   Download SIS Trifold
  •   Skyward--Skyward is our student information system where parents view report cards, sign up for conferences, etc.  This information is also used by teachers and administration to communicate with parents.  When your enrollment is complete you will receive an e-mail with directions for accessing your account.  Go onto Skyward to check/correct that your mailing addresse-mail address and phone numbers are correct.  This is where you also complete your child's off campus waiver annually.

After School - After Class Enrichment (ACE)

The ACE program hours for Elementary are from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with extension available until 6:00 p.m. ACE is geared for students and parents who desire more activity outside normal school hours. ACE includes options for everyone, from dance to science sizzles, from cooking to languages. It is very popular so if you are interested, please reach out as soon as you can!

You can visit the ACE website for more details:  http://www.thevillageschool.com/ace

Communications

The Village School offers different channels of communications.  From email messages to social networks, and from an individual phone call, to automated phone calls in case of school closure. In order to receive all this information in the right guardian's preferred email address and telephone number, make certain your information is up to date in Skyward (see "Access to our school information systems" section.)

  • Weekly teacher newsletter
Expect to receive a weekly newsletter from your child’s teacher. You will find out what they did that week and what is in store for the week to come. It will also include details about future classroom and/or school events.  It will even give you hints on what to ask your child about their curriculum project so they can fill you in on what is happening themselves!

  • Week at a Glance (WAAG)
Every Friday you will receive an email from Carolyn Anshus which includes the Elementary calendar for next week, future events, and details on everything from carpool to special events. The Back to School night and teacher conferences will be announced in the WAAG. Read it weekly to see what is coming up! It usually comes around 5:00 p.m.

  • Town Hall Meetings
Our Head of School, Gabriella Rowe, has Town Hall Meetings a year that you can attend in person, or log in and watch live!  These information nights cover everything from school expansion, curriculum enhancements across all divisions and everything in between including a Q&A.

  • School Communications
From time to time, the school sends notifications, announcements, and other information to our school community. You will receive these in your email account.

  • Village Facebook Page

  • Telephone Calls
Our teachers, nurse and administrators will sometimes reach out to you regarding your child via telephone. Sometimes with concerns, sometimes with good news, so do not feel alarmed if you miss the call and we did not leave a message. In addition, when there is a school closure, we launch our emergency broadcasting system that makes thousands of calls per minute to inform you about our school closure or possibility of closure.  If you do not answer this call, a voicemail is left. A notice about school closure is also always posted on the main page of our website and sent via email as well.

Health Information

Welcome to the school. In order for your child to attend school, you will need to provide some important medical information to the school nurse by the first day of school. Preferably at your earliest convenience.

To better serve you, below is a checklist of the information required. Please also visit our clinic's website page for guidance on the school policy regarding illnesses, "useful links" relating to health and school immunization requirements. Do feel free to contact the school nurse with any concerns or questions: nurse@thevillageschool.com

Lunch

You have the option of sending your child’s lunch to school daily or to enroll in the hot lunch program with our food service provider, Flik Independent School Dining.

If you are interested in a hot lunch for your child, we make them here in our kitchens operated by Flik ISD. For Kindergarten children, the lunches are delivered direct to their classroom.  For the other grade levels, they walk with their group to the cafeteria to eat either the lunch they brought or to buy lunch.

If you will be sending your child to school with lunch from home, we ask that you are mindful of providing healthy options to keep them fueled up for the remainder of the day! We are not able to heat up or refrigerate children’s food but find that an insulated thermos keeps hot items warm and lunchbox ice packs keep food cool as appropriate.

New Parent Coffee

During the year, we offer a few coffee sessions for new parents. Come meet other parents and gain knowledge about our policies and procedures at The Village School. We gather in the Middle School Learning Commons located on the first floor of the Middle School building: 2005 Gentryside Drive.

Upcoming dates for new Parent Coffees will be listed in this section.

Parent Conferences - Dates TBD

Hopes and Dreams Parent Conference - The first of three official teacher conferences. The Hopes and Dreams conference is scheduled about three weeks after school starts. Parents and teachers meet to share goals for the year to come! Times will be set up via skyward with the homeroom teacher. (See "Access to our student information systems" section for skyward access). Instruction on how to signup are sent a week or two prior to the date of conferences.

Parent Conference 2 - The 2nd teacher conference is usually in January.

Parent Conference 3 - The 3rd teacher conference is usually in May.

Additional Communication and/or Conferences - Our teachers are excited to work with you during the school year and want to make the entire experience positive for everyone. If you would like additional feedback and personal meetings, please email your teacher. You will have the teacher’s email addresses once you receive the teacher assignment.  This is the best and fastest way to communicate.

Please send in one or two healthy snacks every day to fuel your child!  Please also send in a reusable water bottle (labeled with your child's name!) everyday.
