Sylvia H.

Residential Life Student

She hears her roommates calling down the hall for her to hurry up and puts the final touches on her hair for the day and grabs her bag for class. Most students arrived 15 minutes ago so she calculates that they will have plenty of time for breakfast before the first bell rings. She may even have a few extra moments to review her Theory of Knowledge paper and help some friends peer review theirs.

Sylvia H. was born in Guangzhou, China. She has been at Village for three years and is a junior in the high school residential life program. She has a deep appreciation for different cultures and perspectives. Her favorite class is Theory of Knowledge (TOK) because she has the opportunity to analyze different world perspectives and discuss a wide range of knowledge that encompasses multiple areas.

Sylvia wants to attend college in the US and has her hopes set on attending USC while majoring in communications. She is multilingual, speaking Mandarin, Cantonese and English fluently, and is on her way to learning Spanish.

When she was asked what her favorite thing was about Village, she said, “It’s a comfortable environment where everyone gets to show passion in things they are interested in. Also, as a residential life student, I get to spend my time on campus so this is my home.”

Sylvia also enjoys listening and practicing her music. She started when she was six years old and continues to develop her skills by taking private lessons for piano and viola. In her words, “stay passionate for things you like and respect others opinions.”
