Hands-On and Screen-Free Activities

A balance of screen time is always important, and we are especially eager to jump into hands-on activities this term. From art therapy to culinary adventures, discover some of the creative activities that we’ve been enjoying recently!

Spicy Storytime with Tacos

As part of their Unit of Inquiry into “Who we are,” learners have been creating posters to express the different foods that they love, like and dislike. Students worked collaboratively in pairs, brushing up on their language skills in the process.

On a separate day, they also gathered together for an outdoor reading of "Dragones y tacos," which was quite the piquant tale! Finally, they rounded off the lesson by making their own tasty tacos.

Non-Standard Units of Measurement

Fall is in the air, and our Outdoor Learning classes provided the perfect excuse to play with pinecones this week! Our K4 students had a blast measuring each other with non-standard units of measurements, including sticks and other natural materials.

One of our counsellors, Ms. Haley, led Grade 4 students through an activity to improve emotional well-being. The group used paint as a medium to explore their emotions.

Art Lessons 'en plein air'

To kick off their unit on still life, our Grade 8 students worked with natural light while drawing outside. Their teacher set up a variety of different elements for them to draw to encourage their creativity.

Poetry in Spanish Language and Literature

Some of our oldest learners have been studying the work of singer-songwriter and poet Joaquín Sabina. We caught them at a quiet moment as they were reading "La del pirata cojo".

Drama Students Attend Plays

Last week several of our Secondary Drama students attended performances of La gaviota at Teatro de la Abadía as well as a dress rehearsal of El vergonzoso en palacio at Teatro de la Comedia. Not only did these outings provide a bird's-eye view of The Seagull and The Bashful Man At Court, they also allowed us to once again support our local artists.
