Parent Academy: Risk & Reward in the Teenage Brain

In this interactive session, Richard Dyer, Principal of our sister school British International School Budapest, tells us how our decision-making is a process of weighing Risk, Goals & Rewards, and how teenagers weigh these factors differently due to their lessened sensitivity toward loss and heightened impulsiveness thanks to teenage hormones.  The good news is there are clear actions we can take to help them control teenage impulsiveness and make better choices.

We look forward to seeing you there!

About our speaker

Richard Dyer Parent Academy

In the last three decades, Mr Dyer has served in five British international schools in South East Asia, as Deputy Principal, Head Teacher and Principal. During that time he was involved in supporting schools in such areas as the improvement of self-evaluation processes, accelerated learning, drugs education, middle and senior leadership development programmes and performance management. He is a Fellow Member of the College of Teachers and an inspector for the Independent Schools Inspectorate.

Mr Dyer is fascinated by learning and believes we are in an age where more is known about how children learn than ever before. With three internationally-educated children of his own, he is committed to the values and principles of international education, believing that the young people of today are truly capable of fulfilling the mission of creating a better, more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. He cycles and plays badminton to keep fit and juggles balls and clubs to remind himself that we are all capable of learning something new.
