Year 5 Maths Whizzes Aim High!

On the 17th and 18th January, eight students took part in the Year 5 AIMS (The Association of International Malaysian Schools) Maths competition.

Maths comp

The ‘BSKL Lions’ (Darren, Timeo, Sianna, and Ashleigh) and ‘The Chosen ones’ (Chaewon, Hey Thi, Kyra, and Radin) were 2 of the 27 teams from 14 participating schools that came together at Garden International School for two days of challenging and interesting maths.

Children competed in a range of team and individual challenges, with scores from each challenge going towards team and individual scores. All manner of mathematical skills were developed and stretched: from shape and measure, to construction, to number and algebra- the children were challenged at every step.

Every child performed admirably and should be proud of themselves. When working individually, they showed incredible resilience and determination to solve very complex problems. They were equally impressive whilst in their teams- listening to each other, sharing strengths and ideas, and working in excellent collaboration.

With 108 children attending from 14 different schools, placing in this competition was going to be difficult but our children did fantastically and all deserve congratulations on their hard work. Well done to "The chosen ones" for placing mid-table and "The BSKL Lions" for securing a trophy with their second place team finish. Special congratulations are also in order for Chaewon who secured 1st place in the individual competition.
