Dr Mike O'Connor
Principal
Mike is an experienced teacher and senior leader who has held Principal positions at primary, secondary, and all-age schools in Australia and China. A Doctor of Education, Mike firmly believes the key to success is a personalised approach to learning, where every student is supported to do what they love, express themselves, and showcase unique talents.

Dr Mike O'Connor

Mike began his teaching career in Australia before assuming leadership positions in several primary, secondary, and all-age schools. This included the Executive Principal role at Upper Coomera State College, one of the largest schools in Australia. Mike subsequently moved to China in 2019, where he was Head of Dulwich College Suzhou, before joining BSKL in 2022.

Mike is a firm believer in the importance of a positive community environment where every student is happy and engaged in learning. This means creating exciting, inclusive, personalised experiences that have a positive influence on each student every single day.

Mike has a Doctorate Degree in Education from Griffith University, Australia, as well as a Bachelor of Secondary Education from Queensland University of Technology.  Outside of school, Mike loves reading, travel, and music. He’s also an avid Leeds United supporter and enjoys watching and playing sports.

Simon Clarke
Head of Primary
Simon is a passionate primary teacher and leader, who has extensive experience in people and project management. Leading our talented team of primary specialists, Simon supports our younger students to grow in confidence, embrace their talents, and learn both collaboratively and independently.

Simon Clarke

Prior to becoming a teacher, Simon spent 10 years in the hospitality and catering industry. Three years after qualifying, Simon was promoted to Assistant Head at a primary school in the UK. He subsequently held leadership positions in UK schools and now at BSKL.

Simon is an ambitious teacher and leader who continually strives for excellence. A strong believer in respect, reflective communication, and camaraderie, Simon helps our younger students grow in confidence, embrace their talents, and learn both collaboratively and independently. He leads our brilliant team of primary specialists, who work tirelessly to make sure every child achieves their potential academically, personally, and socially.

In his spare time, Simon enjoys playing golf, watching various sports, and cooking. Simon is also a qualified football coach.

Dr Nicola Brown
Head of Secondary
Nicola joined BSKL in 2020, having previously taught and held senior leadership roles in the UK. As our Head of Secondary, Nicola works to create a safe, inclusive environment where every student has the confidence to take risks, continuously improve, and achieve at the highest possible level.

Dr Nicola Brown

Originally from the UK, Nicola has taught and held leadership roles in a variety of schools in both London and Malaysia. As our Head of Secondary, Nicola creates a safe, inclusive environment where students can take risks, continuously improve, and achieve great things.

Nicola loves being part of a closeknit teaching and student community that has endless energy and enthusiasm to learn. She drives our personalised approach to learning, where each student is treated as an individual and follows their own path to success. Giving our students the confidence to be themselves and pursue their passions, Nicola and our team of subject specialists encourage them to be courageous, take on challenges, and develop resilience.

Away from school, Nicola loves reading, particularly non-fiction. Nicola also enjoys running, cycling, and immersing herself in the natural beauty of Malaysia.
