Grade 5 Take a Step Back in Time
Grade 5 have continued to explore their Thematic topic of Paintings, Pictures and Photographs. Last week, the students discovered more about the origins of images, taking us back over 30,000 years to the caves of the world. Delving back in time allowed students to use new vocabulary which they used to compare images of people from the past and present. This was also a good chance to learn about famous Chinese figures from different periods of time. In English, students have been working with play scripts, referring to Pixar’s Toy Story as the main stimulus for the unit. To develop their own work, they looked at the characters, scene setting, use of movement and other crucial elements, which will help them to develop their own compelling play scripts. Stay tuned to hear more from our budding directors
The Nutty Inventors of Grade 7
The Grade 7 students have been busy in English class over the past two weeks brainstorming, researching and creating an imaginative and unique invention. Their task was to be creative in designing an item of clothing or accessory that would make their lives, as Secondary School students, a little easier. The possibilities were endless!
Their inventive minds got to work promptly and after spending time collaborating with one another and researching ideas, the final products were very entertaining! Inventions ranged from Self-Walking Trousers to Time-Travelling Watches, Memory-Storing Glasses to Colour-Changing Microchips. Solar-powered electric clothes with GPS tracking and a mobile phone charger even featured!
The students’ inner businessmen and women came to life when they presented their wacky and wonderful inventions to the class, along with advertisements to encourage their peers to buy their products. We can already see some talented designers and persuasive salespeople in the making! Well done Grade 7!
