NACIS Shanghai Catering Facilities and Food Preparation

We wanted to write and reassure you about the high standard of our catering facilities and food preparation areas in our school following the news that another school’s service quality had fallen below expected standards, in particular respect to food expiry and hygiene.

As soon as the news broke on Saturday we were in touch with our catering partner, SLETO, and our parent ambassadors to give you the feedback and reassurance that you need. Today we had two successful ‘inspections’ of our kitchen, preparation and storage areas. One by our Parent Ambassadors, which you can see images of in the linked video by clicking the video, and another by the local government.

We have extremely rigorous systems in place and our provider SLETO surpasses guidelines to ensure the food we serve your children is clean, healthy and nutritious. Every single food group has its own store space and room for its preparation. Vegetables are delivered daily so there is never any chance that they would not be at their best. Dry goods are ordered in such a way that they will only be in our store for two or three days before replacement stocks are delivered.

The food preparation areas are cleaned four times per day, at the start of the day, after morning snack preparation, after lunch preparation and after the afternoon food preparation so are extremely clean. Cleaning takes up about 60% of the staff time. Each food preparation room also has bacteria killing UV lights for an even deeper clean.

Our chef carries out monthly audits and we have all of our documentation and certificates for food storage and delivery that we happily shared with the parents this morning. We were completely happy to have our visitors today as we know our catering service is excellent each and every day.
