At NACIS, we are ambitious for every student to succeed academically, personally and socially. We develop our educational activities based on the concept. Today I would like to share with you the school activities and subject activities that the secondary students have completed during the past two weeks.
1. Halloween Activities
On Halloween, it was fantastic to see our students participating in Halloween activities and their enthusiasm with costumes. Our student council planned and arranged the afternoon’s activities. Allowing our students to participate and explore customs and celebrations from other countries is an enriching learning experience to develop their international mindedness.
2. G6 PSHE workshop
At NACIS, we are consistently looking for new and innovative ways to broaden our student’s minds and improve their critical thinking. As students enter Secondary School, they experience a range of emotions as they adapt to new expectations, teachers, schedules and classmates. This is a particularly critical time in their social and emotional development.
On Friday the 2nd of November Grade 6 students participated in a Performing Arts based workshop centered around communication and problem-solving skills. The workshop was delivered by a UK based company called Round Midnight.
The workshop facilitators led students through various pair, small group and whole class-based activities. The goals of the workshop were centered around improving skills in and supporting students to do the following:
- Understanding how to positively resolve conflict
- Understanding and dealing with emotions
- How to constructively disagree with peers
- How to keep things in perspective
- How to do the right thing
- Learning to trust and being a good friend (extending friendships)
- Understanding and accommodating difference
Along with our students, teachers had the opportunity to participate, watch and learn from these workshops.
It was a successful day and the team from Round Midnight were impressed with the enthusiasm and dedication our students showed.
3. Grade 8 Learning
a. In Chinese lessons, Grade 8 students are encouraged to participate in the activities themed by ”Chinese Traditional Operas Culture”, this activity not only lets students get a good understanding of Chinese splendid operas culture, but also in the interdisciplinary exploration, students learn to appreciate the charm of Chinese traditional operas. Last month we requested students to research one kind of Chinese operas and introduce a related artist and we were delighted to receive a lot of student’s excellent work. This week we have a small exhibition in Chinese class, students showed a strong interest in the exhibition, and they have a deeper understanding of Chinese traditional operas from it. Meanwhile, they had a good appreciation from these creative works.

b. In English lessons, Grade 8 students have been exploring the theme of E-Communication over the past few weeks. This coincides with our PSHE topic this week, E-safety. As technology is a huge part of our lives nowadays, it is vital that teenagers are aware of how to use it safely and respectfully.
